In 1941 blues singer Walter Brown led the roaring Jay McShann Orchestra, whose Kansas City lineup featured young alto saxist Charlie Parker, through the classic Decca sessions that yielded "Confessin' The Blues" and "Hootie Blues." The Dallas native stayed with McShann until 1945, after which his solo career produced markedly weaker returns.
