Warmduscher came together in London during 2014 as a rock & roll outfit whose roster drew several participants from established local groups. Clams Baker, Jr. of Paranoid London, always sporting a Stetson, fronts the ensemble alongside Fat White Family’s “The Saulcano” (Saul Adamczewski) and Lightnin’ Jack Everett, Insecure Men’s “Mr. Salt Fingers Lovecraft” (Ben Romans-Hopcraft), and Paranoid London’s “The Witherer” (also called “Little Whiskers” and Quinn Whalley). Their debut full-length, the wildly boisterous Khaki Tears, surfaced on Trashmouth Records in 2015, after which two singles arrived in 2018. Dan Carey—known for work with Kate Tempest, Bat for Lashes, and the Kills—oversaw those tracks and later helmed the follow-up album Whale City, issued on the Leaf Label the same year. Once the Whale City sessions concluded, Adamczewski departed to concentrate on Insecure Men, the project he co-led with Romans-Hopcraft. With Romans-Hopcraft remaining active in both groups and Adam J Harmer stepping in under the aliases “Cuddles,” “The Duchess,” and “Quicksand,” the band tracked the slick yet chaotic “Midnight Dipper” in early 2019. That song served as the flagship single for Tainted Lunch, their third album, which also featured appearances by Iggy Pop and Kool Keith. Released later in 2019 on the Leaf Label, Tainted Lunch upheld the group’s self-described blend of “funk, punk, hip-hop, and lounge rock.” Pandemic restrictions delayed further activity, yet the members resumed songwriting and entered the studio in 2021. When Dan Carey contracted COVID-19 shortly before recording began, Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Al Doyle took over production duties, resulting in the ’80s-tinged fourth album At the Hot Spot, which appeared in 2022 after the advance single “Fatso.”
