Biography
Despite earning BM and MM degrees in music theory at the University of Michigan, Benson cultivated his skills as a composer without formal guidance in that discipline. His professional path has included performance as a timpanist as well as appointments as conductor and instructor at Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music. Lyrical expression paired with vivid, colorful orchestration marks his body of work.
