Biography
Formed in San Diego in 1999, Waterline Drift brought together the creative direction of a five-member lineup featuring Michael Henning (guitar, vocals), Matt Gagin (guitar, vocals), Erik Norgaard (bass), Jeff Bennett (keyboards) and Sean Taughter (drums). Taking cues from the catalog of My Bloody Valentine and Depeche Mode, the group elected to fuse luminous pop elements with vigorous rock & roll passages. Presenting their characteristic dreamy pop themes atop a steady guitar backbone and expert instrumentation, the band first cultivated a respectable reputation through their intense live performances. After a run of shows across San Diego’s club circuit, the members chose to document their material, resulting in the self-titled five-song EP that surfaced late in 1999. The release met with considerable success and supplied the momentum required to complete their debut album, Divisible by 7.
