Biography
French DJ and producer Laurent Arriau originated the deep house project Watermät. Born during the early 1980s and raised in Paris, he formed an early bond with music through guitar and piano lessons while absorbing a wide range of sounds stretching from Michael Jackson to Guns N' Roses. Daft Punk introduced him to the house scene, prompting him to master DJ techniques and electronic production methods. He spent two years studying science, then shifted into behind-the-scenes production for several prominent French pop artists. Valuing privacy at first, he stayed out of the spotlight until he chose to release his own material, at which point he left Paris in 2012 for the south of France.
After posting his initial tracks on Soundcloud and gaining a sizable audience there, he achieved wider recognition once Spinnin' Records signed "Bullit" and issued it as a single. Written and tracked in only a couple of days, the track combined a bright, summery flute line with dark, expansive bass hits. Appearing in June 2014, it received heavy rotation from leading DJs such as Pete Tong and Tiësto and quickly turned into a defining summer anthem. The single reached charts across multiple European territories, achieving its strongest showing on Belgium's Flemish Ultratop listing at number six.
