Biography
Wax UK emerged from the partnership between seasoned musicians Andrew Gold and Graham Gouldman during the 1980s, yielding multiple albums. As the offspring of Academy Award-winning composer Ernest Gold and Marni Nixon—who provided vocals for figures such as Natalie Wood in West Side Story—Andrew Gold had previously performed with Linda Ronstadt's ensemble and achieved recognition through his solo endeavors and songwriting in the 1970s. Graham Gouldman likewise pursued a solo career while belonging to Hotlegs and 10CC.
The duo's initial offering, Magnetic Heaven, appeared in 1986 and lingered on the U.S. album charts for close to three months, generating the hit "Right Between the Eyes" that reached number 43 without entering the Top 40. Subsequent releases included 1987's American English, featuring the popular European single "Bridge to Your Heart," and 1989's A Hundred Thousand in Fresh Notes. Neither of these later efforts replicated the commercial performance of the first album. Entering the 1990s, Gold and Gouldman each pursued separate projects, with the former joining the singer/songwriter collaboration Bryndle and the latter reuniting alongside his former 10CC colleagues.
