Emerging onstage for the first time in Glasgow, Scotland during 2005, the group We Are the Physics—initially burdened with the cumbersome full name We Are the Physics Club and Therefore Everything We Say Is Fact before trimming it shortly after formation—functioned as an experimental post-rock outfit whose sound reflected the influence of Devo, the Skids, and Buddy Holly. Through repeated performances and European tours the musicians cultivated an audience while sharpening their live presentation, which led to a recording contract with One Records and the 2006 single “Less Than Three.” The follow-up “Fear of Words” appeared the next year, and by 2008 the band had scheduled a May street date for its first full-length effort, We Are the Physics Are OK At Music. Early-year roadwork was arranged to promote the album, prefaced by the April warm-up single “You Can Do Athletics, BTW.”
