Biography
Atlanta teen quartet We Are Toonz debuted in early 2014 via their pop-rap single "Drop That Nae Nae," which they had created the previous year shortly after forming. Drawing inspiration from comedian Martin Lawrence's Sheneneh Jenkins persona, the song saw its initial release toward the end of 2013 yet only gained traction once shared across social platforms and video sites at the start of 2014. Further impetus arrived that year when Michigan State's players erupted in the "Nae Nae" dance inside their locker room following a Rose Bowl win, and Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard uploaded a personal clip performing the moves, prompting radio stations to embrace the track and turn it into a genuine success.
