Welt

Welt, the punk pop outfit, originated in Sacramento, California, when the group assembled in 1993. Jason Cooper, the founding member who writes most of the material and handles bass and vocals, has continued as the sole unchanging presence amid repeated roster shifts through the years. Shortly after the band’s inception, Welt signed to the now-defunct independent label Dr. Dream, which released a string of singles plus the albums Better Days in 1995, Kicked in the Teeth in 1996, and Broke Down in 1998, a period that also saw the group relocate to Orange County, California. Toward the close of the 1990s the lineup stabilized around the ever-present Cooper, guitarists Tobe Bean and Todd Harper, and drummer Marc Harrismendy. Brand New Dream appeared in 2001 as Welt’s initial release on Better Youth Record Co.
