Formed during the spring of 1999 in Chicago, the Wes Hollywood Show draws its core identity from the pop and rock songwriting lineage that flourished in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The lineup consists of Wes Hollywood on guitar and vocals, Jason Styx on drums, Patrick Thornbury on bass, and Mark Talent on guitar. In 1999 the quartet issued its first album, Playing Favourites, through the band’s own Nt. Weight Recordings imprint. That debut expanded on the power-pop approach associated with Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson, earning positive notices for its memorable choruses, sharp lyrical humor, and prominent vocal melodies. After two years of steady performances on the Chicago club circuit, the group delivered its follow-up, The Girls Are Never Ending, via Nt. Weight Records in early spring 2001.
