Wesdaruler crafts graceful, R&B-infused tracks as a rapper, singer, and forward-thinking producer, relying on smooth timbres, relaxed beats, and classic boom-bap grooves. His lyrics frequently explore mental health and compassionate living, laying bare personal challenges across his first album-length project, the 2019 release Ocean Drive.
Born Wes Johnson, he relocated to his father’s native Athens, Georgia, after repeated childhood trips there. Early on he supplied beats for numerous performers, including Linqua Franqa and the Athens hip-hop collective Space Dungeon. When he began recording under his own name, the same relaxed approach underpinned his 2017 EP 4da99, whose sound leaned jazzy. That style matured en route to his debut full-length, Ocean Drive, whose warm, finely textured production and hybrid rap delivery—merging old-school hip-hop elements with R&B accents—supported candid verses addressing isolation, grief, and mental-health difficulties.
