Biography
Whippersnapper originated in Atlanta’s suburbs during the members’ high-school years under the earlier name Corpus Spin. Guitarists Mike and Jason, drummer Pat, vocalist Andy, and bassist Andy B. quickly settled on the present moniker. Their debut release, a split 7" shared with Ronin, soon led to extensive road work alongside Green Day, 88 Fingers Louie, and blink-182. Lobster Records put out the first two albums, 1998’s America’s Favorite Pastime—recorded when every member was still 19—and 1999’s The Long Walk. The earlier set delivered straightforward East Bay-style hardcore driven by youthful energy, yet after relocating to Los Angeles the group absorbed fresh influences that shaped The Long Walk into a more rhythmically and lyrically experimental effort. Three years afterward, Appearances Wear Thin marked the band’s initial release on Fueled by Ramen.
