Philip Lindholm, a Seattle native whose pursuits encompass songwriting, filmmaking, authorship, and scholarship, serves as the creative core of Whiskey n' Rye, a rock ensemble whose sound draws on Americana and country traditions. Lindholm earned three master's degrees plus a doctorate in philosophical theology from Oxford in 2010, reflecting his wide-ranging intellectual reach. While based there, he took on acting work and created multiple documentaries for Britain's ITV network. He supplemented his theological training with composition courses at Juilliard, then embarked on a brief tour performing his own material. After resettling in the United States, he joined the University of Washington faculty as a Kierkegaard specialist, teaching comparative religion. In 2013 Lindholm assembled Whiskey n' Rye with local players from the Tacoma and Seattle music scenes. The group issued its self-titled full-length debut the following year.
