Biography
Adam Forkner, a Portland-based musician devoted to experimental and psychedelic sounds, leads the solo endeavor called White Rainbow while having previously performed with Yume Bitsu and Surface of Eceon; he also joins Valet’s Honey Owens in the duo World. In this guise Forkner produces far-reaching work that includes extended compositions influenced by La Monte Young, Tangerine Dream, and Miles Davis, and he has additionally realized a series of multimedia installation pieces. Under his own name he issued [[[[VVRSSNN]]]] in 2003, merging the space-rock approach of Yume Bitsu with excursions into electronics. During that same period he laid down numerous CD-Rs both alone and with members of Landing; the collected results appeared in 2005 as ZOME. One year later the five-disc and DVD package titled Box was released, gathering those 2003 CD-R recordings together with footage drawn from White Rainbow’s installation works. Several further White Rainbow albums surfaced throughout 2007, among them Sun Shifts, which Marriage Records presented that spring; Sky Drips Drifts, issued by States Rights that summer; and Prism of Eternal Now, which Kranky brought out on CD that autumn while Marriage Records supplied the vinyl pressing. Forkner toured in support of Prism of Eternal Now alongside Atlas Sound and Valet, and the deeper, more hallucinatory atmospheres encountered on those dates encouraged him to stretch his musical range still further on the following release. White Rainbow’s second album for Kranky, the expansive and hypnotic New Clouds, reached listeners in fall 2009.
