Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, the feminist noise rock and post-punk trio Whore Paint unites vocalist Reba Mitchell (Made in Mexico, Assembly of Light Choir), drummer Meredith Stern (Teenage Waistband), and guitarist Hilary Jones (Arcing). Their music merges blistering guitar lines with thunderous, rolling percussion while Mitchell delivers commanding vocals that pivot without warning between ferocious screams and ethereal croons. Her words confront physical violence, political issues, and societal frustrations in a direct and unsparing manner. The group came together in the first months of 2010 after Stern and Mitchell began working together at AS220, a nonprofit arts organization based in Providence. They tracked their first EP, Menarchy, in 2011, after which Anchor Brain issued the recording on 7-inch vinyl. Following a string of regional performances across New England, the band joined the roster of the Providence noise rock label Load Records and unveiled their debut full-length, Swallow My Bones, in 2013. Alternative Press included Whore Paint on its 2014 list of 100 Bands You Need to Know, and the trio shared stages with Lydia Lunch, Alice Bag, Downtown Boys, and additional acts. Translation Loss brought out the band’s second album, Ultra Sound, in November 2015.
