Biography

Born William Mimnaugh to parents with strong musical interests, singer and songwriter Wil passed his earliest years in Quebec before the family relocated to Calgary in 1980. At age thirteen he acquired his first proper guitar—having already owned a toy model since he was four—and began honing his technique, absorbing the folk and country records favored by his parents alongside the sounds of Led Zeppelin and Michael Hedges. He soon began playing local shows, and after putting out the three-song demo Blue he issued Both Hands on his own in 2002. EMI subsequently acquired the album and gave it a wider release in 2004. Around the same period Wil added drummer Pat Stewart to his lineup and began work on the follow-up, By December, which appeared in spring 2007.
