Biography
Emerging from the legendary Feelies, the pastoral pop band Wild Carnation took shape under the leadership of singer and bassist Brenda Sauter. A longtime fixture of the Hoboken, NJ music scene, her earlier involvement with local groups including the Trypes and the Willies led to an invitation to join the reformed Feelies in 1983, a role she held until the band's 1991 breakup while simultaneously performing as a member of Speed the Plough. Sauter launched Wild Carnation in 1992 together with her husband, guitarist Richard Barnes, and drummer Christopher O'Donovan, both also of Speed the Plough; after issuing the single "Dodger Blue," the trio released the rustic full-length Tricycle on the Delmore label in 1994.
