Wild Planet

In the late '90s, Swedish techno producer Simon Hartley—recording under the name Wild Planet—saw his material issued by the prominent Detroit label 430 West. Because that imprint seldom ventured beyond local talent, observers paid particular attention to Hartley's output, whose sound aligned closely with the label's established Detroit techno aesthetic. The Burden brothers, operators of the Detroit concern, introduced the project via the 1998 12-inch Synthetic/Moving On, then issued the full-length Transmitter the following year along with the 1999 remix EP Genetic (Remixes). After those appearances, Wild Planet fell silent, as Hartley vanished from view with the same abruptness that had marked his arrival.
