Wild Ponies, an Americana duo, crafts a grounded fusion of tough alt-country and classic Appalachian sounds that occasionally ventures into rock and folk territories. Doug and Telisha Williams, who function as both musical collaborators and spouses, launched the project after relocating from their origins in Martinsville, Virginia, to Nashville's creative center. Their debut release, Things That Used to Shine, arrived in 2013 and registered modest gains on Americana Radio playlists, paving the way for the 2016 follow-up Radiant. Although those initial two albums leaned heavily toward the rock side of the Americana range, the band's third album, Galax, turned instead to a strong emphasis on its Appalachian heritage. Issued in 2017, Galax spotlighted banjo, fiddle, layered vocal harmonies, and longstanding mountain traditions.
