Biography
Having studied piano under Berger and composition with Klein, Taubert formed a connection to the Berlin Royal Opera during Mendelssohn’s leadership of that institution. His principal focus remained teaching at the Royal Academy of Arts, where Kullak numbered among his pupils. Producing well over two hundred works bearing opus numbers, he turned out six operas, incidental scores for eight plays, four symphonies, assorted sonatas, and additional pieces, most of them cast in a fashionable, graceful manner yet lacking lasting depth. His piano cycle Minnelieder continues to receive performances.
