Biography
Will Martin, recognized as a classical crossover vocalist, pursued a varied and nomadic path in his formative years before obtaining a recording contract and scaling the charts. Born August 31, 1984, in Wellington, New Zealand, he discovered a love for live performance while still a student and subsequently sang for visitors in the resort area of Taupo. Eager for wider recognition, he shifted to Auckland and auditioned to front a covers act. Securing the position brought a three-month booking at the Hard Rock Cafe in Dubai. Following his return, Martin formed the Will Martin Trio and appeared at multiple events funded by corporate sponsors. Further voyages followed when he took a singing role on a Caribbean cruise liner. Yet a 2006 journey to London ultimately sparked his ascent. After captivating Universal’s A&R executives, the label inked a deal and ushered him into the studio. His debut album, A New World, was captured in 2007 and ascended to number two on the New Zealand charts.
