Biography
Hailing from Pennsylvania, Kirkpatrick brought firsthand experience from Civil War bands into his work as a compiler and publisher of gospel music. Serving as president of the Praise Publishing Company, he assembled roughly one hundred collections in the genre. His arrangement of the hymn "Jesus saves" carries musical markings that point to practical familiarity with band performance.
