Biography
In 1966 the Sansu imprint released a lone single credited to Willie & Allen. Allen Toussaint supplied the material for both sides—“Baby Do Little” and “I Don't Need No One”—yielding examples of New Orleans soul voiced by a male duo whose approach echoes Lee Dorsey recordings such as “Get Out of My Life Woman.” Observers have suggested that the pair actually consisted of Toussaint and Willie Harper, the same singers who performed as the Rubaiyats, an act that likewise placed one single with Sansu that year. Every track from the Willie & Allen release, together with both sides of the Rubaiyats single, later appeared on the Sundazed anthology Get Low Down!: The Soul of New Orleans '65-'67.
