Biography
A Canadian singer and songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Willie Stratton fuses blues, country, rockabilly, and surf music into a singular form of indie roots rock. His introduction to listeners arrived in 2011 via a self-titled debut that merged passionate Atlantic folk with energetic Americana built for long drives. In 2014 he issued Deserter under the name Willie Stratton & the Boarding Party, delivering a twangy set dominated by electric guitar and grounded in raw, vintage garage rock pushed to distortion. Rockabilly-flavored retro-country shaped the 2016 EP Della Rosa, while the 2020 release Grease Coast, recorded with backing band Beach Bait, raced through raw, lo-fi surf-rock tracks. On 2023’s Drugstore Dreamin’ Stratton distilled those influences into a sleek blend of torchy Roy Orbison country-pop and propulsive, roots-driven indie rock.
