Biography
Gus Seyffert, functioning as the project's multi-instrumentalist and composer, steered Willoughby into issuing its debut full-length, I Know What You're Up To, during 2008. Although outside contributors supplied certain elements, the project's singular fusion of vintage analog rock in the mold of the Zombies and Harry Nilsson with contemporary textures drawn from Inara George and Brit-pop originated entirely with Seyffert. Seyffert's abilities extended beyond Willoughby itself, however, encompassing a joint EP with Inara George under the Bird and the Bee banner plus a guest spot credited to Willoughby on a Junkie XL recording. Beyond the album and these partnerships, Willoughby carried its sound to audiences through live engagements, among them a 2007 outing alongside Sia and a comprehensive North American trek the following year.
