Detroit's Wilson came together in 2010 as a muscular, no-holds-barred, blue-collar hard rock unit. The group established its name through grassroots efforts built on relentless touring and prominent support slots at shows and festivals alongside GWAR, Theory of a Deadman, and All That Remains. Anchored in pure, analog-driven sonic might, the band's opening pair of studio albums summoned echoes of Crobot, Bobaflex, and Hellyeah. By 2018 the outfit had experienced a hallucinogen-inspired transformation that folded hip-hop and rap-rock elements into its sound while shifting toward a more positive, though equally party-driven, attitude.

The Motor City five-piece formed around Chad Nicefield on vocals, Jason Spencer on guitar, Kyle Landry on guitar, James Lascu on bass, and Matt Puhy on drums. Their first release, the aptly titled Fullblast Fuckery, arrived in 2013 on Dine Alone. The record drew the interest of Razor & Tie, which signed the band the next year. Wilson's second studio album, Right to Rise, appeared in June 2015 and was followed by a U.K./European tour shared with Halestorm and Nothing More.

Ahead of entering the studio for the third full-length, vocalist Chad Nicefield journeyed to Asia with friends and underwent a revelatory acid trip. The experience altered his perspective on the band and its music, prompting Nicefield to observe that "I just kind of realized who we are as people and our DNA was that of a bunch of lovable, silly dudes, that love to make music." The outcome was Tasty Nasty, issued in 2018, a full-tilt yet nostalgia-driven and self-deprecating set that fused the hedonistic bar-band swagger of the group's prior work with hip-hop, post-grunge, and Limp Bizkit-ian nu metal.
