The San Francisco-based producers Daniel Saxon Judd and Samuel Milton Grawe constitute the duo Windsurf. Alongside their collaborative work, Grawe issues solo material as Hatchback, while Judd, previously a member of Call & Response, records independently under the Sorcerer name. Both jointly and apart, they stand among the foremost American representatives of the globally scattered Balearic or cosmic disco movement, an electronic style marked by free-floating, downtempo, and gently psychedelic qualities. Norwegian scene leader Prins Thomas discovered their separate projects and subsequently asked the pair to reissue their debut Windsurf EP on his Internasjonal label in early 2008; the recording had originated in 2006 as a digital-only release from the Los Angeles label Sentrall. Their first full-length, Coastlines, surfaced in November and completed a loose spiritual trilogy that also encompasses the respective Sorcerer and Hatchback debuts White Magic (2007) and Colors of the Sun (2008).
