Biography
The Washington DC duo Winterbrief wove grating melodies, electronic accents and pointed political themes into their sound, earning comparisons to British acts such as Bis, Yummy Fur and Red Monkey that they admired. Jan and Julian formed the lineup, covering guitars, vocals, synthesizers and drum programming, and channeled that approach into the band’s first album, Complaints From The Beauty Class, which appeared on Hub City Records. After the 1998 release Winterbrief relocated to Philadelphia, though not before placing tracks on compilations issued by Pal, Shirley Beans and Tapegun Records.
