Biography
Within Reason, a Birmingham, Alabama-based ensemble known for its aggressive post-grunge and metal sound across multiple hard-rock variants, has placed material in motion pictures, TV series, and interactive games. The group formed in 2005 with core members Chris Dow, David Koonce, and Griffin Zarbough, drawing influence from Rage Against the Machine, Staind, and Linkin Park. As Southern rockers, they issued their first independent EP, Cycle a Smile, in 2006; that release secured a live spot on the WB series One Tree Hill. Extensive road work followed, including shared bills with Hinder, Black Stone Cherry, and Plain White T's.
In 2008 the band entered the studio under multi-platinum producer Rick Beato to track its first full-length release, Bloodshot Life, which appeared the next year. Nick Chahwala then produced the 2012 EP After the Crawl. Early 2013 brought a Microsoft Surface television commercial, and 2014 saw Within Reason join the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival tour before heading out on a North American run with Godsmack and Seether. Cody Hanson and Marshal Dutton of Hinder co-produced the 2017 sophomore album Battlefields: Life Love and War. The following year the band released the single “Elephant Fight 17,” honoring University of Alabama football and its 17 national titles.
