Wizards

A native of New Jersey, Joel Katz has built a career as both singer and producer while sustaining a deep-rooted devotion to the layered vocal harmonies that defined the doo wop era. He has consistently championed the style and applied his own high, clear tenor to fresh recordings that extend its legacy, frequently under the billing Joel & the Dymensions. Lead vocals have also come from him in several other ensembles, among them the Wizards, assembled in 1981 strictly as a studio undertaking. The group continued in that capacity, with Katz out front, until approximately 1985. Collectables later assembled a 2006 sampler CD titled Doo Wop Magic that drew from the Wizards’ recorded sessions.
