Wold

Originating in Saskatchewan, Canada, as an experimental fusion of black metal and noise metal, the project known as Wold was conceived by Fortress Crookedjaw following the 1999 dissolution of his earlier electro-noise endeavor Static Eyesore. Activity under the Wold name began the subsequent year, and although additional musicians participated at various stages before the lineup stabilized around Crookedjaw alongside Obey, creative control stayed firmly with the founder throughout. An initial demo appeared in 2001, after which further recordings took shape and later emerged as the Badb demo in 2003. The limited cassette edition L.O.T.M.P. proved instrumental in securing a 2005 contract with Profound Lore, prompting the label to issue an official version of that recording while the band entered the studio to prepare its first proper full-length effort. Released in 2007, that debut album carried the title Screech Owl, and the follow-up Stratification arrived the next year.
