Biography
During his formative years, rapper Won-G divided his time between Brooklyn and Port-au-Prince, Haiti, absorbing a rich array of musical and linguistic influences until age 15. After his family relocated permanently to the United States, he began entering talent competitions. That success paved the way for his first recording, the small-scale indie-label album Do It Do It, which appeared in 1995 with support from his father and brother. He went on to launch his own imprint, Happy World, together with a friend's parents, drawing the attention of Beyond Music and securing a deal for his 2000 release The Royal Impression. Produced by his brother Dubble M, the project featured guest spots from Layzie Bone, the Outlawz, Yukmouth, and Sylk E. Fine while delivering an upbeat, positive energy and a freewheeling mix of pop, dance, urban styles, and the sounds of his native Haiti.
