Biography
Leading the Aussie black metal endeavor Woods of Desolation, multi-instrumentalist D fuses the frigid austerity of classic melodic black metal with post-rock and shoegaze textures. After the 2008 release of Toward the Depths, the project established itself among underground black metal listeners. D further shaped his restorative and melancholic approach across the 2009 Sorh EP and the well-received 2011 album Torn Beyond Reason, later securing wider attention with 2014’s As the Stars, an album that landed on multiple year-end best-of lists. He kept refining his distinctive post-black metal voice through the side projects Remete and Unfelled while developing the follow-up to As the Stars. Joining forces with Vlad of Drudkh and Windswept, D finally delivered Woods of Desolation’s long-awaited fourth full-length, the Season of Mist-issued Falling Tide, in 2022.
