Biography
Formed during their time as students at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, the five-piece Canadian group Wool on Wolves began in 2008. The project remains fully collaborative, with Thomas Reikie, Eric Leydon, Gordon Brasnett, Brody Irvine, and Kevin George all sharing songwriting and arranging responsibilities while each handling several instruments, although Reikie sings the majority of lead vocals. After a contentious disagreement over the initial Vancouver recordings planned for their first album, the band instead tracked their debut EP, Hate Is Poor, inside their own Edmonton rehearsal room in 2010. Later the same year they issued their first proper full-length, Grey Matter, which earned two Edmonton Music Awards plus a Western Canadian Music Awards nomination for Rock Album of the Year. Their layered, expansive arrangements frequently incorporate large horn and string sections, and the group’s approach has drawn favorable comparisons to Wilco and Ryan Adams. Their follow-up album, Measures of Progress, appeared in late 2012.
