Biography
Brooklyn, NY provided the setting for World Atlas’s formation in 2006, when frontman Brian Groux launched the project to present his own four-track home recordings. During the four years that followed, the roster featured Jessica Healy, Jenny Logan, Jonathan Nigro, Lauren Ashley Strenge, Alex Haager, and guest contributor Fred Thomas, whose prior recognition stemmed chiefly from his role in the stylistically aligned Saturday Looks Good to Me. The band’s bright, unsteady songs, colored by Groux’s vocals that distinctly recalled Stuart Murdoch, invited comparisons with Belle & Sebastian while also reflecting the approach of fellow acts such as the Hermit Crabs and the Math and Physics Club. Magic Marker Records issued the self-titled debut EP in spring 2010.
