Biography
Australian outfit World Champion fused synth pop, psych, and soul into an energetic and buoyant sound that turned the group into indie favorites upon the December 2015 arrival of their debut EP, Avocado Galaxy. After that release on the Future Classic label, the Sydney-based project—originally formed that same year by Will Campion of the Chevaliers and Cut Silk alongside Julian Sudek of Canyons and FLRL—earned widespread praise for its eclectic approach, then spent the following year playing major domestic festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Lost Paradise while supporting Toro y Moi, Jagwar Ma, and Parcels on the road. Three years would pass before the band resurfaced, now expanded into a trio with the addition of Reg Harris, to deliver the groove-driven single “Gun” once more through Future Classic.
