From Los Angeles comes Wounded Lion, whose brilliantly simple, off-kilter garage pop recalls the Modern Lovers. Singer/guitarist Brad Eberhard, a fine art painter and former art teacher, anchors the group alongside drummer Monty Buckles of the Lamps plus Shant, Chris, Jun, and Raffi. Eberhard began capturing songs in GarageBand during 2008, the same year the band issued its debut S-S single “Carol Cloud” b/w “Pony People,” whose B-side the Intelligence later covered on Fake Surfers. In 2009 the Creatures in the Cave 7" appeared on Gilongo, followed by the In the Red single “Friendly?,” which also contained Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” and Wild Man Fischer’s “Big Boots.” The self-titled full-length debut arrived on In the Red in 2010. Later that year the band released additional singles, among them Relaxation is My Specialty, which resurfaced on the 2011 follow-up IVXLCDM—the first album to feature Lars Finberg of the Intelligence, A-Frames, and Thee Oh Sees on drums.
