Xavi, an Arizona-based singer and songwriter, shapes his performances around a genre he devised called "tumbado romantico." His original material blends regional Mexican currents such as corrido norteño, ranchera, cumbia, and mariachi with North American folk and pop strains, a fusion audible across his singles. Before joining Interscope in 2021 he had already issued six independent singles and their accompanying videos. His first release for the label, "Me Aguanto," surfaced in December and was followed by nearly monthly singles throughout 2022. Streaming totals climbed steadily and drew press coverage. The flow of singles continued unabated into 2023. May brought the seven-track EP My Mom's Playlist, which earned unanimous acclaim. "La Víctima," released in August, climbed to number ten on the Hot Latin Songs chart and neared 100 million streams, while its successor "Poco a Poco" with Los Dareyes de la Sierra matched that performance. November’s "La Diabla" fused ranchera, bolero, and mariachi, quickly turning viral and entering the U.S. Top 20. "Corazón de Piedra" appeared in 2024.

Born Joshua Xavier Gutierrez in Arizona on New Year’s Day 2005, Xavi was raised in the state after his parents settled there three years earlier. Radio, social media, and YouTube videos spurred him to begin teaching himself guitar at age ten. He started writing songs at twelve and by fifteen was uploading videos to YouTube and tracks to streaming platforms. Surging audio and video streams, together with rising social-media activity especially on TikTok, attracted notice from Interscope and other labels. The company signed him in 2021 once "Amigos con Derecho" went viral.

"Me Aguanto," his opening Interscope single, arrived in December and received favorable critical notice. He followed in January 2022 with "Y Tú," which approached one million streams. Roughly one single appeared each month thereafter. April’s "Quiero Contarte" surpassed two million streams and set the pace for the balance of the year. Releases such as "Kilómetros," "Loko," and "Zero Sentimientos" each exceeded one million streams, the last surpassing two million.

Xavi opened 2023 with the sweeping ballad "Aquí Estoy," which entered the Hot Latin Songs chart after logging more than five million streams. February brought "Solo Recuerdos," a collaboration with Los Aptos. In April he shifted direction with the seven-song My Mom's Playlist, a set of covers drawn from both current and classic Latin repertoire. "Sin Pagar Renta" also registered on streaming charts, while the jazzy mariachi single "La Victima" reached number eight on Mexican pop charts. "Poco a Poco," recorded with Latin Grammy nominees Los Dareyes de la Sierra, entered Mexico’s Top 20 and appeared on charts across Latin America. October saw the release of "Modo DND" with corridos tumbados singer/songwriter Tony Aguirre. Social-media resurgence prompted the December re-release of "La Victima," which became Xavi’s first Top Ten hit on both Hot Latin Songs and Latin Streaming Songs. November’s "La Diabla" charted in several countries and marked his mainstream breakthrough in the United States, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2024 he issued his debut album NEXT, a 15-track collection that included the earlier hits "La Víctima," "La Diabla," and "Poco a Poco" and debuted at number nine on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.
