Biography
Romy Xeno records and performs under the name Xenoula, shaping an offbeat strain of independent electronic music that fuses impulsive creativity with steady, groove-oriented rhythms. Most of her childhood unfolded in South Africa, where she absorbed the communal sounds of surrounding villages along with the textures of the surrounding natural world. After moving to the U.K. at sixteen and encountering a crowded, consumption-driven setting, she began channeling those experiences into songwriting. Once she established herself in northern Wales, Xeno developed a distinctive approach that wraps her playful singing in an unpredictable mix of rustic acoustic elements and electronic textures. Weird World released her self-titled first album in 2017, with LA Priest—also known as Samuel Eastgate and Sam Dust—handling production and mixing duties.
