Biography
During the 1980s Yanka Rupkina helped drive the rising profile of Balkan music. She joined Stoyanka Boneva and Eva Georgieva to establish Trio Bulgarka, the vocal ensemble linked to La Mystere Des Voix Bulgares. Beyond issuing their own recordings, Rupkina and the trio supplied vocal harmonies on Kate Bush’s The Sensual World and The Red Shoes. She later served as soloist with Balkana, the national television and radio Bulgaria group. Her self-titled debut solo album, released in September 2000, included a duet with Linda Ronstadt.
