Yann Novak, a multimedia artist and curator based in Los Angeles, builds immersive meditative drones and audiovisual installations from field recordings subjected to digital processing. His profound, gradually unfolding pieces examine perception and awareness by means of intangible materials such as sound and light. Dozens of prominent galleries and festivals worldwide have presented Novak’s work, and he has worked in tandem with Richard Chartier, Robert Crouch, and Marc Manning.

He curates Dragon’s Eye Recordings, the label his father Paul Novak established in 1989; Yann revived the imprint in 2005 and began issuing limited-edition CD-Rs by himself and by artists including Wyndel Hunt, Celer, and Ian Hawgood. Further recordings by Novak have appeared on Line, Hibernate, Farmacia901, and additional labels. In 2016 the U.K. experimental music institution Touch released Ornamentation, Novak’s collection of digitally altered field recordings and modular synthesizer. Line followed with Surroundings in 2017. His second Touch album, The Future Is a Forward Escape Into the Past, arrived in 2018, and Room40 issued Slowly Dismantling the next year.
