Biography
Emerging from Sweden’s modest steel-producing community of Sandviken, Yast fuse shoegaze, alt-rock, and jangly psych pop in an unexpected package. Calle Jensen, Marcus Norberg, and Tobias Widman launched the project as a trio in 2007; after the friends settled in Malmö they recruited Markus Johansson and Niklas Wennerstrand to fill out the rhythm section. Following several years devoted to songwriting, rehearsal, and live shows, the band—whose name abbreviates Youth and Student Travel—issued a run of singles in 2012 that paved the way for their self-titled debut album on Adrian Records in 2013. Calling themselves lo-fi romantics, the group found an international audience for that first LP and soon appeared on bills with TOY, DIIV, Tame Impala, and comparable acts. My Dreams Finally Did Come True followed in 2015.
