Biography
Hailing from Louisiana, YK Toon first unveiled his boundary-crossing hip-hop sound in 2019 through the debut mixtape No Play Zone, lifting him beyond the conventional trap and hip-hop blend favored by many peers. Based in Houma, Louisiana, he began rapping in 2018 under the initial name NFL Toon before making the switch. Early recognition arrived via the self-released tracks "City Rollin" and "Free Ziggy", which preceded the arrival of No Play Zone later that year. Drawing influence from Lil Baby and NBA YoungBoy, Toon crafts a hip-hop style that moves past typical trap and drill textures by merging melody with lyrics recounting everyday life. His 2020 follow-up arrived as the mixtape I Don't Play (NFL Rules 1.0), highlighted by a remix of "City Rollin" that features Quando Rondo.
