Baton Rouge rapper YNP Maine channels personal hardship and ambition into a sound defined by tension and menace. Emerging first in 2022 via the track “Trippin,” he later joined French Montana’s Coke Boys Records and dropped the 2023 cuts “Aw Yeah” and “PBX103.”
Basketball once occupied Maine more than music, though his brother pursued rap. Following his brother’s death, the sixteen-year-old turned to rapping to voice his grief. The 2022 release of “Trippin” drew notice well beyond Baton Rouge, and the ten-song project The Start arrived the same year. French Montana placed Maine on Coke Boys Records, after which “Voices” appeared on the DJ Drama-hosted Coke Boys 6: Money Heist Edition early in 2023. “Aw Yeah,” featuring Ndotspinalot, followed shortly, and Maine continued with the singles “Aventador,” “All Out of Favors,” and “PBX103.”
