Yoshinori Hayashi, a Tokyo-based producer and DJ, thrives on unpredictability by weaving multiple styles into his collage-like DJ sets and studio creations. Early EPs generated attention before his first album arrived as the abstract downtempo grooves of Ambivalence in 2018, while Pulse of Defiance in 2021 merged rave, jungle, and free jazz influences. Local club appearances began in the late 2000s, followed by shared bills with touring acts such as Seth Troxler, Marc Romboy, and Âme by the mid-2010s. Going Good issued his debut EP, The End of the Edge, a collection of lush organic downtempo and left-field house, in 2015. JINN Records released The Forgetting Curve, complete with a DJ Sotofett remix, in 2016, and Asylum appeared shortly afterward on Ital’s Lovers Rock imprint. A split EP with DB.Source came out via Gravity Graffiti in 2017. Disco Halal presented the wildly abstract Uncountable Set EP at the start of 2018, after which Jheri Tracks issued the dark, dubby Harleys Dub. Smalltown Supersound debuted Ambivalence, a trippy shadowy full-length that drew highlights from prior EPs, and followed with the more club-focused Y EP of techno and electro tracks in 2019. Label regulars Prins Thomas and Bjørn Torske supplied remixes for a 2020 single. The second album, Pulse of Defiance, arrived in 2021 as a blend of jazzy breakbeats, galactic techno, and hardcore junglism.
