Youinseries

YouInSeries emerged in 2003 as a post-hardcore outfit initially called Brown Eyed Deception, centered on vocalist Kyle Lobeck and drummer Cheyne Smith. Guitarist and vocalist Logan Lanning came aboard the next year, after which guitarist Chris Davila and bassist Jacob Kirkegard rounded out the five members. The Las Vegas-based group channels the same emotionally charged yet forceful approach heard in bands such as Thrice and Circa Survive. At the heart of YouInSeries rests the conviction that embracing the present remains essential, since it alone constitutes the moment of genuine existence and people hold no sway over their circumstances amid life’s random occurrences; hence the guiding phrase, "You are in a series of events." After two years of self-booked tours throughout the country, the members—each still in their early twenties—signed with Equal Vision in early 2006. Brian McTernan, whose credits include Thrice and Hot Water Music, produced the debut album Outside We Are Fine, released the following May. The group spent much of that summer touring with labelmates Circa Survive, yet by fall Smith and Lanning had left. Drummer Daniel and ex-Versus the Mirror guitarist Kevin Ryan stepped in shortly afterward.
