Biography
Formed in 2007 by five prominent figures from separate Houston crews—Starstruck, J-Yung, Chyco, JM, and Just-O—Young Problemz emerged as a collective specializing in dense, moody hip-hop steeped in the city’s trademark low-end bass, deliberate pacing, and syrup-soaked atmosphere. The MCs quickly developed an effective method for exchanging verses and interlocking their deliveries, allowing their individual contributions to coalesce without friction despite the presence of multiple established egos. The 2008 single “Boi,” built around a menacing chorus and issued in numerous remixes, spread through local circles before reaching national airwaves and drawing notice from Asylum Records. Their debut album, Da Problem (How’s My Rapping), arrived in 2009 and juxtaposed humorous moments with unfiltered, confrontational material, indicating substantial prospects for the five-person lineup.
