Biography
In 2004, four friends from Otley—a modest town near Leeds in the United Kingdom—launched the alternative pop/rock group Your Vegas. The project began with a tougher, grunge-infused approach before the ensemble pivoted to a lighter tone and revised its roster. The lineup stabilized around Coyle Girelli on vocals, Mat Steel on guitar, Mark Heaton handling keyboards and guitar, Jon Langford on bass, and Mal Taylor on drums. Taking its name from one of the band’s earliest independently released singles, the quintet launched into extensive touring across the U.K. When a major-label agreement collapsed, Girelli relocated to New York City, which struck him as an ideal base for advancing the group. The remaining members soon visited, returned home to wrap up their affairs, and then relocated permanently to the United States. Momentum built swiftly once Your Vegas inked a deal with Universal Republic and appeared at the 2008 SXSW festival. That same year the band issued both an EP and a full-length album, each titled A Town and Two Cities.
