Biography
Yowler blends delicate acoustic folk with fuller indie rock layers as the reflective solo outlet for Maryn Jones. The Columbus, Ohio musician also performs with the indie bands Saintseneca and All Dogs. Her first Yowler album, The Offer, appeared in 2016.
Jones had earlier shared solo recordings under her own name, among them a self-recorded collection of original songs and the late-2000s covers EP Covers, Etc. That EP featured her spare, lo-fi interpretations of songs by the Cranberries, Incubus, and the Microphones. In 2012 she issued The Gift, captured in Michigan and Ohio studios with assistance from other engineers yet still preserving her quiet, unpolished approach. Around the same period she became part of the growing roster in Zac Little’s indie folk-rock outfit Saintseneca, contributing bass and backing vocals to the Anti- releases Dark Arc in 2014 and Such Things in 2015. She simultaneously fronted the ’90s alt-rock-styled band All Dogs, whose debut album Kicking Every Day came out in 2015.
Resuming intimate solo work under the Yowler name, Jones joined the Double Double Whammy roster and delivered the project’s first full-length, The Offer, in 2016. Black Dog in My Path arrived on the same imprint two years later; Jones and Kyle Gilbride of Swearin’ produced the set, with Gilbride also handling several instrumental parts. In 2018 she additionally appeared on Saintseneca’s fourth album, Pillar of Na.
