Biography
Born into the Swedish cloud rap circle Sad Boys, producer Yung Gud supplied the beats and instrumentals behind several of Yung Lean’s most recognized tracks. An early immersion in trance shaped his psychedelic style, and the hazy, atmospheric quality of his productions played a central role in the group’s rise. Beyond those Sad Boys sessions he supplied remixes for additional acts, then issued his own first standalone project in 2014, the EP Beautiful, Wonderful.
Carl-Mikael Göran Berlander entered the world in 1995 and spent his childhood in Stockholm, where trance, ambient, and psychedelic sounds captivated him while still very young. He began composing his own pieces at twelve and left high school early to devote himself to music. Mutual acquaintances introduced him to Yung Lean in the early 2010s, leading to their first joint recording, “Oreomilkshake,” in 2012. Their partnership continued through the 2013 mixtape Unknown Death 2002 and the 2014 studio album Unknown Memory. That same year Gud also put out his four-track solo debut, Beautiful, Wonderful.
Extensive touring abroad led to heavy substance use, prompting a return to Sweden for recovery. He created remixes for Tinashe, producer Jacques Greene, and rapper Meek Mill while serving as producer on material for Halsey, Prada Mane, and Deniro Farrar. In 2016 he issued the solo piece “Body Horror,” a dark, tumbling track. By then he had shortened his name to Gud. In the years that followed he occasionally shared new tracks or remixes online, among them slowed-down reinterpretations of songs by Aaliyah and YEMI.
